This photo has the aesthetics of photo shoot that Gia did with photographer John Stember. It looks so much like one of Stember’s that even John Stember himself mistakenly confirmed that it was his.
The photographer of this photo is in fact Stan Malinowski.
It was published July 1977 when Gia was 17,
finishing summer school so that she could get her
High School diploma in Philadelpha.

People who knew and/or worked with Gia have innocently misidentified photos as Gia many times over the years,
as have many Gia’s fans.
We’ve all been mistaken at least once.
We’re all humans, our eyes and our memories
can deceive us sometimes.
We all have to be more diligent about not
tagging or “confirming” that a photo is Gia
just because we think it looks like her.
Unless we have the proof, then we don’t know if it’s Gia.

A yellow rose represents friendship, joy and caring.

They were Gia’s favorite flower.

Yellow roses can also convey warmth, delight, gladness and affection, as well as say good luck, welcome back, and remember me.

Rob Fay and Gia Carangi

Rob Fay

Gia met Rob at Eagleville Hospital in 1985. Rob was there for Gia until the very end. He endured the heartbreak of watching his good friend pass away in the most horrendous way. AIDS devoured it’s victims, and it takes a strong person to be there, and not run away from it. God bless you Rob.

Joe Petrellis, Gia's first photographer and good friend.

Joe Petrellis was Gia’s first photographer and good friend.

Joe shot Gia’s first test shots when she was 14 years old in Philadelphia. They stayed in touch even after she left for New York. When Gia left New York for the last time, Joe was still there for her. Joe visited Gia in the hospital up until the day Kathleen stopped allowing visitors. God bless you Joe.

Suzanne R. was a friend who stayed in touch with Gia from the moment they met as teens in Philadelphia until the day she passed. Suzanne visited Gia in the hospital until Kathleen stopped allowing visitors. I will not share Suzanne’s photo or last name out of respect for her privacy. God bless you Suzanne.
