This photo of Gia was posted years ago and set the internet on fire. Over time, people forgot who shared this photo, and if there was ever a story associated with it, EVERYONE would love to know.

With as much (or as little) information that I could find on this photo, my conclusion is that Gia was invited to the “Urban Cowboy” premiere party at Gilley’s in Pasadena TX, most likely by Diane von Furstenberg, or by Lynn Wyatt, Houston Socialite and Hostess of the event. This photo is the only photo shared, and is not a work shoot, it’s a candid.

Any number of people could have taken that photo of Gia.

But my guess would be Diane von Furstenberg.

The movie “Urban Cowboy” premiered June 5, 1980, at the Gaylynn Theater in Houston TX, featuring a post-showing charity gala which was packed to the cowboy-hat-brim with stars. The event was hosted by Lynn Wyatt, one of the city’s most prominent socialites. Party location: Gilley’s.

Billing itself as the largest honky-tonk in the world, this Pasadena nightclub was also the setting for the John Travolta and Debra Winger film which told the story of the romance between Bud and Sissy.

Photographer Janice Rubin was in attendance and took an abundance of candid photos of TOP celebrities during this event. However, back then MANY people carried cameras at events, so some photos are uncredited candids.

Lynn Wyatt is a Houston socialite, philanthropist and third-generation Texan. Her grandfather and great-uncle started the Sakowitz fashion specialty store chain.

Lynn and Oscar Wyatt hosted many celebrities through the years, offering their mansion known as “Wyatt Hyatt”, becoming a “home away from home”.  To name a few, Princess Margaret, Princess Grace of Monaco, Bill Blass, Joan Collins, Mick Jagger, King Hussein and Queen Noor of Jordan.

Lynn Wyatt has appeared in American Vogue (magazine), Harper’s Bazaar, Town & Country and W (the high fashion/social magazine of Fairchild Publications) through the years. She is a friend and patron of couturiers Valentino, Karl Lagerfeld, Emanuel Ungaro, Bill Blass, Jean Paul Gaultier Diane von Furstenberg and others. She was inducted into the International Best Dressed List Hall of Fame in 1977.

To see more FANTASTIC photos of this event, Google: Urban Cowboy premiere Houston TX June 5 1980. There are LOTS of photos. Some were shot at the Gaylynn Movie Theater in Houston TX, some were shot at the Gilley’s premiere party.

GILLEY’S: Country music legend Mickey Gilley and his partner opened Gilley’s in 1971. It closed in 1989 after Gilley and his partner had a falling out. July 5, 1990 an Arson fire attack destroyed the main building. In 2006 it was demolished by the Pasadena Independent School District, its current owner.

Gaylynn Theater in Houston TX opened May 27, 1965 and closed September 6, 1988.
