Renato truly loved Gia and had a special feeling for her. She always showed up for his shoots, sometimes late, but she showed. When her career was almost over, he fought for her to work again for Italian Vogue. He wanted to do a trip with her. Sadly, it was never allowed. He said when he photographed her it was like photographing a big cat or a wild animal. She had that intensity that was very powerful and almost frightening. He teased her once and said “Gia, what are you going to do, eat me?!”. Gia would pace the floor before she was ready. She always gave something different.

~Renato Grignaschi on Gia, translated from Italian to English.
“I remember the first time I work with her; everybody told me: “be careful can be a problem to work with her”. For me was not a problem was a such fantastic emotion! She had something unique! Everytime when I was working with her I filled my heart make bum, bum, bum, because I filled that samething very special was in front of me, not a model, a woman, a person with inside something strong and mysterious that maked my soul tremble.”
She was always very nice with me and I adored her. She was something that I want to understand and I was not able to do it, but this was probably her magic.
I remember when I tried to book her for a very important job for Italian Vogue, was a cruise in the Mediterranean sea, Vogue said “not, not, not Gia its too dangerous! I tried so hard I said: I will be close to her ever single second, I will take her hand all the time, but Vogue said absolutely not. She camed ina studio where I was working and she taked my hand and she told me: “please Renato help me I want to do this job, I was always nice and correct with you” (and it was true) I answer: I can’t, I can’t, Vogue said not. This moment will stay always in my heart as a sad moment because I had not the change to help this fantastic girl.
When I heard Gia was dead was a very bad day to me. I saw the movie with Angelina Jolie (I don’t want to see anymore) Angelina was far from Gia, she is playing with the lips, Gia was playing with the eyes and with all the person. My picture of Gia is not a fashion picture, is a portrait because if it was the first time I met her I had the perfect perception of the tension who this girl had inside.
The town of Arona, where I was born decided to make a big exhibition with my portraits, Gia portrait was there with 82 photos of very important people. Two pictures of the exhibition are Gia photos.
I really love her very much.
